Yet, often when someone is diagnosed with high cholesterol they are just given the drug without attempting first to educate about eating right and exercising more?

The side effects of statins is understated. My 90 year old father was on statins for the last 15 years. At one point he was experiencing memory loss, a condition called rhabdomyolysis, most likely due to the depletion of Co-Q10 and terrible pains in his spine. We were desperate. The bone doctor wanted to operate on his back which would have been very dangerous at his age. We opted for a physical therapy,a change in diet, nutritional supplements and dropping the statin drugs.
His back pain has been gone for four years now. Since he is taking fish oil too, his arthritis in his shoulder and hands is gone also.
His cholesterol is normal according to the most recent blood work we had done. When we were at the doctors office, he suggested that we might want to go back to taking statins. Can you believe that! What is going on in his head?
I have written several entries in my blog about the dangers of statins too.
