Robert Hruzek - What I Learned from the Law
Thank you Robert Hruzek from Middle Zone Musings for an opportunity to participate in another writing assignment project with you: What I learned from the Law
When prompted I was immediately reminded of this little story that would fall into my slice of life wiglets category at Best of Mother Earth
It was the fall of 1978. The EGADS ( pronounced EEEEE-GADS which translates to eight girls are damn sexy, as in --hi I am a freshman in college.), planned a little autumn road trip from NIU to Northwestern University to see Gina's boyfriend Bill and pals. We, all 6 of us piled into Joey, my darling Toyota Corolla and off we went! Most of the weekend was about awesome music, partying, loads of giggles, pizza and meeting as many boys as humanly possible. We walked along the beach ( it was one of those amazing indian summer weekends), we could see the Chicago skyline, there were bonfires, we stayed up really late and had a truly raucous time.
On Sunday, very late morning we all donned our Brown's Chicken " It Tastes Better " T-shirts and our tightest jeans. We paraded ourselves somewhere for breakfast, making a youthful spectacle of ourselves and then made the dreaded drive back to our campus and our studies. On the way home, music blaring, way too much chatter going on I found myself distracted as all heck and I was driving a tad too fast. We ended up with a state trooper on our tail. I so didn't want a ticket. I said look ladies when he asks me for my license I want all of you to get out and stand in a line - maybe our tshirts will make him laugh and he'll be nice to me. The guy - a very serious as a heart attack state trooper - could so NOT keep a straight face, when I wriggled in the middle of the row of the "it taste's better" T-shirts. I'm sure I said something rather cute and lo and behold I got a warning. He was blushing - it was positively adorable. The girls made quite the fuss as they all piled into my Joey, screaming " it taste's better - brown's chicken !!! "
What I Learned from the Law ? You never know when your cheezy t-shirts will come in handy. When you are 18 years old, you really have a lot of nerve. State Troopers are cute!
Robert dear, thank you for giving me a writing platform to share from.

Karen - I loved this! Cops (or most of them anyway) are human too and not that I would advocate EVER using underhand methods to beat the law I am glad you got away with this one.
